Education and Training

One objective of PHPT is to provide training and education to a new generation of researchers and health care professionals in Thailand. In collaboration with colleagues at the Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences, Chiang Mai University (AMS) and medical professionals throughout Thailand, the PHPT program provides training, capacity building, and educational opportunities for university students.
All year round, medical professionals working with PHPT organize national, regional and local training on HIV medicine and counseling, clinical research and good clinical and laboratory practices for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory technicians, people living with HIV/AIDS, community members and others. Academic training sessions have been conducted within Chiang Mai University through academic lectures, short courses for graduate students and symposiums for students and health care professionals from Thailand and the Greater Mekong Region.
Many students from Thailand, Europe and the United States have received short and long-term field training at undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD levels . Of particular significance is the training provided in the framework of the ongoing Franco-Thai Collaboration Program in Higher Education and Research 2005-2011 including 8 students which participate in a PhD program under a co-direction (French University/Chiang Mai University); Co-direction of students by Thai and foreign mentors can be considered as the best way to develop long term collaborations for research capacity strengthening in Chiang Mai University.
