PHPT was created in 1996 in Chiang Mai, the epicenter of the HIV epidemic in Thailand at that time. PHPT's main objective was to determine strategies for preventing mother to child transmission of HIV, and AIDS care that could be integrated in the existing health care system in order to reach the populations who needed it most .
Today PHPT works to:
Improve the efficacy, safety and tolerance of therapies for the prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV.
